About Destinations for Teens Hatteras House

Destinations for Teens Hatteras House provides compassionate care for adolescents aged 12-17, designed to give support to families with teens who are struggling with addiction and co-occurring mental health disorders.
Throughout a 45+ day program, clients will attend AA, NA, and other support meetings to help identify triggers related to their substance abuse, and develop alternative coping mechanisms. This helps teens to combat cravings and redirect them to a healthy alternative. Their treatment approach involves cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) with an emphasis on coping skills, incorporated with creative therapies that allow them to express themselves in a caring, nurturing environment. Outdoor activities, physical fitness, body movements, and yoga will also get the teens moving, so they can begin to understand the positive effects of exercise on mental health.
Their residential program provides a home-like feel with luxury accommodations and amenities to create a serene environment for healing. They have nutritious chef-prepared meals and snacks, with dietary accommodations available, an outdoor pool and patio area, comfortable communal living areas, a recreation room, and an attached gym for exercise. A main component of their treatment additionally includes on-site academic support and one-on-one supervision. They have virtual classrooms, GED and college prep, life and vocational skills training, and a work center. Teens are typically paired together in a single room, giving them the benefit of 1-on-1 interaction and bonding with peers, in addition to daily interactions with the rest of the group and staff.
During orientation, parents will meet their child’s entire treatment team during a thorough psychosocial and substance abuse assessment. It’s important to Destinations for Teens that loved ones are involved in the recovery process, so they offer family therapy sessions and education classes as part of their program. Once clients have reached their desired level of progress with their customized residential treatment plan, the teen will be ready to reenter a healthy life. Destinations for Teens offers families continued care and support with robust aftercare planning and services.
